October in Leicester

So, it’s definitely looking a little darker in the mornings. And, as the nights pull in and the weather is getting chillier, there’s no denying it, autumn is most definitely on its way.

But as we move away from the summer months, the good news is that October in Leicester sees an events diary packed full of fun things to do around the city.

We already know that Leicester is one of the best places in the country to live, because, whatever it is that’s your favourite thing to do, there is something for absolutely everyone here. From the nightlife and restaurants, to the carnivals and city’s sporting prowess, it’s all going on in Leicester this October.

Big Events!

Some of the real highlights over the next few weeks include some big events from some of the city’s greatest venues.

For instance, it’s World Space Week from October 4-10 and where better place to be for it than the National Space Centre right in the heart of Leicester.

World Space Week 2015 highlights our era of deep space discovery and will show you all of the amazing, out of this world things that have been discovered in only the last decade. From far away galaxies to the first space landings on certain planets, there really are some wonders to behold.

Also the end of the month brings one of the most popular events of the October calendar, but if you fancy a Halloween with a difference, the space centre is again the place to be for its exciting Alien Encounter.

On Fright Night itself, a squad of Colonial Marines will take charge for a mission that promises to change your world forever.

Entry includes a 3D simulator ride, the Aliens Exhibition, with original props and costumes from the movie and a chance to meet Colonial Marine Armour maker Terry English and see his jaw dropping exhibition.

And if Leicester’s great sporting history’s more your thing, then check out the Leicester Rugby, Leicester People touring exhibition from 3 – 11 October at Victoria Park.

There’s the chance to learn about the city’s great sporting heritage while enjoying the marvellous atmosphere of the Rugby World Cup 2015.

Arts for everyone!

When it comes to arts and culture, Leicester has it going on in bucket loads. There’s just such a massive range of theatre, art exhibitions, cinemas, musical venues and museums to choose from and a great place to start is in the city’s Cultural Quarter where you will find a whole host of places to be entertained.

Take the Curve Theatre which, thanks to popular demand, will see the return of Matthew’s Bourne’s gothic romance Sleeping Beauty this October.

While over at the Phoenix, October is Black History Month with a series of films programmed by local arts organisation Serendipity alongside two new films in the main programme. Films also showing at the Phoenix in October include Macbeth, Tangerines, A Walk in the Woods and American Ultra.
